On August 13, the Russian Ministry of Defence confirmed that ” the town of Peski in the Donetsk People’s Republic was completely liberated as a result of the offensive actions of the Allied forces”. The DPR People’s Militia confirmed that as of August 13, 2022, 267 settlements, including Peski came under Russian control.
The assault units of Russian-led forces claimed major success in the town of Peski on August 4. The Armed Forces of Ukraine were repelled from their military positions in the town and clashes continued only on the north-western outskirts. Then the first reports about DPR control of the town came from the front lines. These claims were officially confirmed on August 13, when Ukrainian forces left the town.
On August 12, two companies of the 56th brigade of the AFU reportedly deserted from their military positions near Peski. According to the local reports, the personnel fled in the direction of Dnepropetrovsk.
Due to the high intensity of the fighting in the area, losses in some Ukrainian units amount to more than 70%. The moral and psychological state of Ukrainian servicemen who held the defense in this area are low.
The fighters of the Somalia battalion of the DPR shared video showing their aid to the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who were found in the trenches in Peski. DPR servicemen gave water and provided the necessary medical assistance to their enemies.

The advancing Russian-led units are expected to develop their offensive towards Vodianoe to surround Ukrainian forces in Avdeevka from the south-western direction. The General Staff of Ukraine has previously confirmed the growing threat for its grouping in Avdeevka amid Russian advance to the south of the town. The Kiev’s regime is yet to claim the loss of Peski.
