On October 2, a joint Russian-Azerbaijani patrol came under fire in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the incident, reporting that an unknown person opened fire on the patrol with a sniper weapon.
The incident took place in the city of Stepanakert and resulted in no victims. The command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, Azerbaijani authorities and representatives of Karabakh are conducting a joint investigation of the incident.
“There are no casualties. The command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, together with representatives of the Azerbaijani side and Karabakh, is conducting proceedings on this fact,” the report by Russian Defense Ministry says.
The incident was reportedly the only violation of the ceasefire regime in the region. The Azerbaijani security forces entered the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh after the ceasefire agreement was signed. They were patrolled by Russian peacekeepers.

Meanwhile, Armenians are fleeing the republic that was abandoned by Yerevan and will soon officially become part of Azerbaijan. More than one hundred thousand Armenians left the territory of the unrecognised republic, while less than twenty hundreds remained there. Units of the local Artsakh army are handing over their weapons and military equipment to the Azerbaijani military under the control of Russian peacekeepers.
As of October 2, 76 units of armored vehicles, 92 units of automotive equipment, 111 units of air defense systems, 95 units of field artillery, MLRS and mortars, more than 6.3 thousand units of small arms and anti-tank weapons, about 14.4 million ammunition were handed over, according to the official data.
The authorities of the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh announced the termination of its existence from January 1, 2024.
