The Russian military had carried out a series of strikes with long-range, sea and air launched precision-guided weapons against Ukrainian sites where “terrorist acts” against Russian territories were being prepared, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on July 23.
In a statement, the ministry said that the strikes targeted sites where naval drones were stored as well as areas where they were being manufactured near Odessa. Foreign mercenaries were present in the targeted facilities, according to the ministry.
“All the targets were destroyed,” the ministry’s spokesman, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov, said.
The ministry also announced that the Russian military had repelled a new wave of Ukrainian attacks in the directions of Donetsk, Krasny Liman, South Donetsk and Zaporozhye.
In the Donetsk direction, the Russian Yug Group of Forces repelled 14 attacks near Belogorovka, Mayorsk, Veseloye, Vodyanoye, Severnoye and Kleshcheevka. The group also targeted several units of Kiev forces close to Vesyoloye and Kleshcheevka.
Ukrainian losses in this direction amounted to 370 troops, six armored fighting vehicles, 24 motor vehicles, two American-made M777 towed howitzers and a Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer, according to the ministry.
In addition, three ammunition depots of Ukraine’s 22nd, 24th and 54th mechanized brigades were targeted close to Spornoye, Dzerzhinsk and Stupochki.
Meanwhile in the Krasny Liman direction, the Russian Tsentr Group of Forces repelled six attacks close to Novovodyanoye and Karmazinovka. The group also targeted gatherings of manpower and equiptment of Kiev forces near Yampolovka, Ploshchanka, Chervonaya Dibrova and Nevskoye.
A Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group was also targeted close to Nevskoye. Moreover, an ammunition depot of the 95th Airborne Assault Brigade was destroyed near Serebryanka.
According to the ministry, Ukraine lost 130 troops, ten armored fighting vehicles, four pickup trucks, an Akatsiya self-propelled howitzers as well as two D-30 towed howitzers and a D-20 towed howitzer in this direction.
In the South Donetsk direction, the Russian Vostok Group of Forces repelled a Ukrainian attack close to Novomikhailovka. The group also targeted gatherings of manpower and equipment near Staromayorskoye and Priyutnoye.
In Zaporozhye direction, the group repelled two more attacks close to Rabotino and targeted Ukrainian units close to Novodanilovka, Malaya Tokmachka and Charivnoye. The group also destroyed an ammunition depot of Ukraine’s 105th Artillery Brigade near Novoivanovka.
Ukrainian losses in this direction amounted to 160 troops, seven German-made Leopard 2 tanks, 15 armored fighting vehicles, including ten American-made Bradleys, five motor vehicles, an American-made M777 towed howitzer as well as Msta-B and D-20 towed howitzers.
The situation in other directions, according to the statement of the Russian MoD:
In the Kupyansk direction, aviation and artillery of the Zapad Group of Forces have struck AFU manpower and hardware close to Molchanovo, Figolyovka, Popovka, Ivanovka, Pershotravnyovoye, Kislovka and Orlyanka (Kharkov region), and Stelmakhovka (Lugansk People’s Republic).
The enemy losses were up to 30 Ukrainian servicemen, 3 armored fighting vehicles, 3 motor vehicles, and 1 Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy losses were up to 60 Ukrainian servicemen, 2 armored fighting vehicles, as well as 9 motor vehicles.
1 AFU ammunition depot has been destroyed near Zmiyevka (Kherson region).
Operational-Tactical and Army aviation, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have neutralized 104 AFU artillery units at their firing positions, manpower and hardware in 132 areas.
In addition, 3 command posts of 47th, 66th mechanized and 95th airborne assault brigades of the AFU have been hit close to Malaya Tokmachka (Zaporozhye region), Novovodyanoye (Lugansk People’s Republic) and Serebryanka (Donetsk People’s Republic).
1 fuel depot of the AFU 33th Mechanised Brigade has been destroyed near Malaya Tokmachka (Zaporozhye region).
Fighter Aviation of Russian Aerospace Forces have shot down 1 AFU Su-25 aircraft near Verolyubovka (Donetsk People’s Republic).
Air defense facilities have intercepted 1 HIMARS multiple-launch rocket system projectile, as well as 1 Storm Shadow cruise missile.
In addition, 28 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles have been destroyed close to Olshana, Tavolzhanka (Kharkov region), Verkhnekamenka, Oborotnovka, Privolye, Nikolayevka, Topolevka (Lugansk People’s Republic), Opytnoye, Novopetrikovka, Lipovoye, Trudovoye, Soledar, Yelenovka (Donetsk People’s Republic), Novoye, Zelenopol, Peremozhnoye, Kuibyshevo, Pologi (Zaporozhye region).
In total, 457 airplanes, 243 helicopters, 5,197 unmanned aerial vehicles, 426 air defense missile systems, 10,854 tanks and other armored fighting vehicles, 1,139 fighting vehicles equipped with MLRS, 5,573 field artillery cannons and mortars, as well as 11,848 special military motor vehicles have been destroyed during the special military operation.
The Russian military also released videos showing the destruction of several Leopard 2 tanks and Bradley vehicles by Ka-52 attack helicopters, Lancet loitering munitions, FPV suicide drones and artillery fire.
The new wave of failed attacks marked the start of the eight week of Ukraine’s counteroffensive. Despite sustaining heavy human and material losses, Kiev forces have so far failed to make any meaningful gains on the ground. The forces are still stuck several kilometers away from the Russian’s military’s first line of defense.
