The Sever Group of Forces repelled eight attacks by Kiev forces that targeted the settlements of Borki, Korenevo, Kremyanoye and Malaya Loknya in the Kursk direction, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on August 28.
Other attacks were thwarted near the settlements of Spalnoye, Olgovka, and Russkaya Konopelka, the ministry said in a briefing, noting that 75 Ukrainian troops were killed or wounded, five others were captured and one tank plus eight armored fighting vehicles were destroyed.
The ministry also said that Russian air and artillery strikes hit Ukraine’s 22nd, 61st, and 115th mechanized brigades, 82nd and 92nd airborne assault brigades close to the settlements of Apanasovka, Borki, Viktorovka, Kruglenkoye, Krasnooktyabrsky, Lyubimovka, Malaya Lokna, Mirny, Novoya Sorochina, Obukhovka, Plekhovo, Sverdlikovo, Sudzha, Snagost and Yuzhny.
It added that other strikes hit the reserves of the 41st and 54th mechanized brigades, 80th Air Assault Brigade, 69th Separate Rifle Battalion, 1st Ukrainian National Guard Brigade as well as the 101st, 103rd, and 107th territorial defense brigades close to the settlements of Atinskoye, Belopoloye, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Glukhov, Iskriskovshchina, Masenzovka, Mikhailovskoye, Pervomaiskoye, Pustogorod, Solyaniki, Shalygino, Ugroyedy and Esman.
“The AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to more than 380 troops and 30 units of armored vehicles, including one tank, one infantry fighting vehicle, and 28 armored fighting vehicles as well as six artillery guns, three mortars, and nine motor vehicles,” the ministry said.
“Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses were over 7,000 troops, 74 tanks, 35 infantry fighting vehicles, 62 armored personnel carriers, 460 armored fighting vehicles, 210 motor vehicles, 51 artillery guns, 13 multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), including four of HIMARS MLRS and one of MLRS, five SAM [surface-to-air missile] launchers, 10 electronic warfare stations, two radar counter-battery stations, one air defense radar, five engineering vehicles as well as two counter obstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle,” it concluded.
The ministry also released videos showing some of the recent strikes that targeted Ukrainian troops and equipment in the Kursk direction.
Kiev forces launched their surprise attack in Kursk on August 6. Western-made weapons and foreign mercenaries played a key role in the attack, which came to a halt within a few days due to the fierce resistance of the Russian military.
Since the start of the attack, at least 31 Russian civilians have been killed and more than 140 others have been wounded. Moreover, the attack displaced more than 140,000 civilians. The fate of some 2,000 others who lived in areas attacked by Kiev forces remain unknown.
