The Russian military’s Sever Group of Forces inflicted heavy losses on several formations of Kiev forces in the Kursk direction, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on October 20.
In its daily briefing, the ministry said that 22nd, 47th, and 115th mechanized brigades, 82nd and 95th air assault brigades, the 36th Marine Brigade, as well as the 103rd and 129th territorial defense brigades took losses near the settlements of Kolmakov, Kruglenkoye, Lyubimovka, Nizhniy Klin, Novoivanovka, Novy Put, Tolsty Lug, Cherkasskaya Konopelka, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.
Russian air and artillery strikes also hit gatherings of manpower and equipment belonging to the 17th Tank Brigade, 41st and 61st mechanized brigades, the 80th Air Assault Brigade, as well as the 101st Territorial Defence Brigade, according to the ministry.
The gatherings were targeted near the settlements of Aleksandriya, Viktorovka, Volfino, Guyevo, Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, Ivashkovskiy, Kazachaya Loknya, Kamyshevka, 2nd Knyazhy, Kurilovka, Makeyevka, Maryevka, Oleshnya, and Pogrebki.
The ministry said that other strikes hit the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk, targeting the reserves of the 22nd, 41st mechanized brigades, as well as the 101st, 103rd, 112th, and 129th territorial defense brigades close to the towns of Bublikovo, Zhuravka, Iskriskovshchina, and Pavlovka.
“During the day, the AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to more than 310 troops, nine armored vehicles, including one infantry fighting vehicle, an M113 armored personnel carrier, seven armored fighting vehicles, six guns, six motor vehicles, two Anklav electronic warfare stations, and a counter-battery radar station,” the ministry detailed in its briefing.
Kiev forces launched a surprise attack on Kursk last August, relying mainly on foreign mercenaries and Western-made weapons.
Since the start of the attack, at least 56 Russian civilians have been killed and more than 266 others have been wounded. Moreover, the attack displaced more than 144,000 civilians. The fate of some 2,000 others who lived in areas attacked by Kiev forces remain unknown.
The Russian military launched a counter-attack in Kursk in September. Nearly half of the settlements initially occupied by Ukrainian troops have been already liberated.
According to the Russian MoD, since the start of the battle in Kursk Kiev forces have lost 25,050 troops, 167 tanks, 83 infantry fighting vehicles, 103 armored personnel carriers, 964 armored fighting vehicles, 660 motor vehicles, 210 artillery guns, 38 launchers, including nine American-made HIMARS and six MLRS systems, nine air defense systems, five transport-loading vehicles, 50 electronic warfare stations, 11 counter-battery radars, three aerial radars, 22 engineering vehicles, including 13 counter obstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle and three armored recovery vehicle.
