The Russian Army broke through Ukrainian defense and launched new assault in the city of Chasov Yar in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
In recent days, the assault groups of Russian forces launched several successful attacks. As a result, they managed to cross the main line of Ukrainian defense build along the Seversky Donets-Donbass canal and enter the city of Chasov Yar. Russian forces gained a foothold on the eastern streets of the Oktyabrsky districts of the city.
The assault was launched by forces of the 11th and 98th Airborne Divisions of the Russian Armed Forces. They advanced about 250 meters deep into Ukrainian defense.
According to unconfirmed reports, Russian forces again used some underground paths to attack Ukrainian defense. Earlier, the Russian military launched risky attacks in Ukrainian rear through underground paths in Avdeevka and Toretsk.
The new advance was possible after the Russian military secured the full control of the eastern Kanal district and expanded its zone of control along the entire eastern bank of the Seversky Donetsk-Donbass canal in recent weeks.
The canal itself shallowed, but it is still difficult to be crossed on armored vehicles without additional pontoon crossings. They were built while Russian artillery and aviation were pounding Ukrainian military positions in the area.
The Ukrainian military also densely mined the area and built fortified strongholds along the canal.
At the same time, Russian stormtroopers launched new attacks in the Novy district. The command of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is likely aimed to contain the Ukrainian garrison in battles and force the enemy to remove units from the outer line of defense to the city streets. The main part of the Ukrainian garrison is likely to retreat to the industrial area of Chasov Yar in the nearest future.
On the outskirts of the city, the Russian military is expanding its zone of control in the area of Kalinovka. At the same time, the Ukrainian military is concentrating forces east of the city, fiercely fighting for control of the key heights, since the loss of the latter will complicate the position of the Ukrainian garrison in this direction.
