Russian air defenses foiled a Ukrainian attack on Moscow and several other nearby regions over the night of August 20 and 21, intercepting dozens of suicide drones.
“Over the past night, alert air defense forces destroyed 45 fixed-wing UAVs [unmanned aerial vehicles] upon the Kiev regime’s attempt to carry out a terrorist attack by UAVs against facilities on Russian territory,” the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
According to the ministry, 11 drones were shot down by air defenses over the Moscow region, another 23 drones over the Bryansk region, six drones over the Belgorod region, three drones over the Kaluga region and two drones over the region of Kursk.
Videos posted to social networks showed the successful interceptions of two fixed-wing drones over an unspecified part of Moscow.
Russian media didn’t report casualties or material losses in Moscow or any other region as a result of the failed Ukrainian attack.
The attack came as the Russian military is working to eliminate a large Ukrainian force that infiltrated into Kursk and occupied several settlements earlier this month.
The Kiev regime’s repeated attacks on Russian territory, including the latest drone attack on Moscow, appear to be a desperate attempt to distract the Russian military, which has been advancing rapidly in Donetsk and several other directions within the special military operation zone.
