Novosibirsk Aircraft Production Association Plant handed over the first batch of Su-34 fighter bombers to the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) this year, the press service of Rostec announced on April 5.

In a statement, the Russian state corporation said that the plant, named after V. P. Chkalov delivered the fighter bombers to the VKS after a series of factory tests.

“All UAC plants involved in the execution of state defense orders are not slowing down their production rates. With the first batch of Su-34 fron-tline bombers, we have started delivering aircraft within the framework of the current year’s production program. The Novosibirsk plant is confidently performing the tasks assigned to it. The workers at the plant understand how important our technology is today,” Rostec quoted United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) head Yury Slyusar as saying.

Rostec added that the Novosibirsk plant is awaiting a new stage of upgrades and technical re-equipment of production. The plant will also be provided with a stable workload both for state defense orders and for promising projects.

“We plan to attract new employees. This year alone, we need to recruit more than 1,000 production workers and engineering specialists,” Rostec emphasized.

Based on the Su-27 air superiority fighter, the Su-34 was designed primarily for tactical deployment against ground and naval targets on solo and group missions in daytime and at night, under favorable and adverse weather conditions and in a hostile environment with air defense and electronic warfare deployed, as well as for aerial reconnaissance.

The fighter bomber has a maximum speed of Mach 1.8 at altitude and a combat radius of 1,100 kilometers with a standard 12,000 kg weapons load.

It can deploy a wide range of precision-guided munitions, including glide bombs, land-attack cruise missiles, anti-radar missiles and anti-ship missiles. It can also be armed with short-range and beyond visual range air-to-air missiles for self-defense.

The VKS has so far received more than 150 Su-34s from UAC. The frontline bomber is planned to eventually replace the Su-24 tactical strike fighter and the Tu-22M long-distance bomber in the long term.
