Over the past few days, fighting between the advancing Russian-led forces and the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the area of Lysychansk has been particularly tense. As a result of clashes, Russian-led forces took control of the territory of the entire Luhansk People’s Republic.

Over the past few days, Russian and LPR units took control over positions of retreating Ukrainian forces in several settlements in the region, as a result, the city of Lisichansk was almost completely surrounded.

Russian-led forces advanced from the northern and southern outskirts and took control over the central districts. On July 2, they claimed control over the city. The claims were made by several Russian, LPR servicemen, Russian military reporters as well as by the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov.

The remaining AFU units left the trap and moved towards the city of Seversk.

The claims were confirmed by the Banner of Victory raised over the building of the city administration. Serviceman of the 6th Cossack regiment named after Platov of the LPR PM holds the Banner of Victory over Lisichansk. The retreating Ukrainian units destroyed several administrative buildings, including the city hall.

The mop up operation continues on the streets in the city of Lisichansk. The destruction of the last pockets of Ukrainian resistance may take a few more days.

Russian military reporters are already working in the city, showing the destruction, taking interview with local residents. Civilians are leaving their shelters, welcome Russian soldiers. A lot of them testify on war crimes of Ukrainian fighters, claim that they shelled civilians and used them as human shields.

In the recent days, the city of Lisichansk was almost completely surrounded. The Lysychansk oil refinery, the Matrosskaya mine, the gelatin factory, and the settlement of Topolevka have been taken under LPR control. The AFU also left the villages of Zolotarivka, Shypylivka and the town of Novodruzhesk.
