A salvo of rockets was reportedly launched from Syria in the direction of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights early on April 4, amid heightened tensions over the recent deadly Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
The rockets were reportedly launched from the vicinity of Al-Jumou hill, which is located in the western countryside of the southern governorate of Daraa.
Incoming rocket sirens are activated in the Golan Heights settlement of Keshet. Hebrew media didn’t report any impacts of interceptions.
Later in the morning, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a London-based monitoring group, reported that Israeli strikes targeted three sites between Daraa and the neighboring governorate of al-Qunitra which were used to launch a total of 12 rockets at the Golan Heights.
Nevertheless, the IDF didn’t report any rocket attack on the occupied region or announce any strikes against targets in Syria.
Rocket attacks from southern Syria against the Golan Heights became a regular occurrence after the outbreak of the Israeli war on the Palestinian Gaza Strip.
The IDF also significantly escalated its attacks on Syria since the beginning of the war, hitting Syrian military positions and targeting members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its affiliates.
At least 13 were killed in the April 1 Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus. Seven IRGC members were among the victims, including two senior commanders of the Quds Force, Brigadier Generals Mohammad Reza Zahedi and his deputy Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi.
Iran vowed a harsh response to the Israeli attack. Israel is anticipating a direct strike against its territory. It is unclear however if Syria will take part in the Iranian response.
