Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has called on separatist and Maoist militant groups to joint the govevernment fight against ISIS terrorists in the city of Marawi, promising to treat them as soldiers and offering the “same privileges.”
“I will hire you as soldiers – same pay, same privileges, and I will build houses for you in some areas,” Duterte said in a satement on Sunday.
The offer was made to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and the New People’s Army (NPA).
The fighting in Marawi erupted last week when ISIS-linked gunmen seized a large part of the city. Since then, the Philippines military has been attempting to expel terrorists from the city.
