The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) continues to face fierce resistance from Palestinian armed factions in the Gaza Strip, despite escalating strikes on the besieged enclave.
On March 20, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Gaza’s ruling Hamas Movement, released a video showing its fighters targeting several main battle tanks of the IDF with rocket-propelled grenades close to al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City in the northern part of the Strip. Israeli troops have been operating in the medical complex for the last few days. Dozens of Palestinains have been killed and at least 200 others captured there, so far.
Another video released by the group on the same day shows an attack with a rocket-propelled grenade against an Israeli armored personnel carrier in al-Zahra city in central Gaza.
And on March 21, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the al-Quds Brigades, released a video showing its fighters targeting an Israeli combat drone over northern Gaza with a heavy machine gun.
While the IDF has not made any significant gains in Gaza in recent weeks, it continues to launch dozens of strikes against the Strip on a daily basis.
The Hamas-run health ministry said in a statement on March 21 that 65 Palestinians were killed and 92 others were wounded in the last 24 hours.
“Many victims are still trapped under rubble and on the roads and rescuers can’t reach them,” it added.
The casualties brought the Palestinian death toll since the start of the war to 31,988. More than 74,188 others have been wounded so far.
On the other side, the IDF has lost 251 troops since the start of ground operations in Gaza. At least 1,400 others have also been wounded.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza is worsening and Israel has not yet achieved any of its stated goals. Still, the war appears to be far from being over.
