The Pakistani military launched on April 30 large-scale drills amid rising tensions with India over the recent terrorist attack in the resort of Pahalgam.

Samaa TV, citing multiple sources, reported that the drills involve tanks, artillery, and infantry units equipped with both light and heavy weaponry. These exercises are being conducted across key areas near the front with India, including Sialkot, Narowal, Zafarwal, and Shakargarh.

Military officials told the Pakistani news channel that the exercises reflect the Pakistani military’s heightened state of readiness amid rising border tensions.

“Our forces are fully committed to defending every inch of the homeland,” a senior official noted, emphasizing the soldiers’ dedication and willingness to make any sacrifice necessary for national security.

“The Pakistan Army remains vigilant and continues to apply its professional expertise with discipline and resolve,” another security source added. “We will take every necessary step to secure our borders and uphold peace.”

In addition, defense sources told the channel the ongoing drills underscore the military’s “complete readiness and unwavering determination” to respond to any provocation or threat.

The attack on Pahalgam, which took place on April 22 and claimed the lives of 26 people, caused a serious crisis between Pakistan and India.

Islamabad denied any involvement in the terrorist attack. Despite this, New Delhi responded harshly, expelling Pakistani diplomats, closing border crossings, and even halting a vital water-sharing agreement. The last move, never before taken even during full-scale wars.

Since then, clashes have been reported on a near-daily basis along the Line of Control in the Kashmir region as well as along the internationally-recognized border between the two countries.

Pakistan’s Information Minister Ataullah Tarar warned earlier in the day, citing what he described as “credible intelligence,” that India may launch a military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours.
