Russian fighters won another outstanding victory in the war against the Ukrainian army. On March 24, militants of Ukrainian special operations forces and nationalist battalion attempted to break through the Russian border in a new direction in the Belgorod region, but they were back by fearless Russian border guards. 25 Russian soldiers repelled an attack by a group of 150 of the most trained and ardent forces of the Ukrainian army.
Judging by the course of the Ukrainian offensive in the Belgorod region, the initial goal of the Ukrainian attacks is to reach and cut the road east of the border to further expand the foothold on Russian territory and possibly even launch assault on the central town in the region, Krasnaya Yaruga.
After a week of fruitless fighting near the village of Demidovka, the Ukrainian military tried to bypass the Russian defenses from the north to break through to the village of Popovka. Russian military sources revealed some details of the outstanding battle.
The first clashes in the area were reported at about 2 p.m. local time. There is an important stronghold near the village, where initially the defense was held by ten Russian border guards from the reserve of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia in Primorsky region. They were later reinforced by 15 soldiers of the 128th Brigade of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The Russian fighters repelled the attacks of about 150 soldiers of the 8th regiment of the Special Operation Forces of Ukraine and the Aidar national battalion. Ukrainian forces attacked in several waves in groups of up to 45 people, but were unable to break through Russian fighters. Suffering losses without any result, the Ukrainian military began shelling the stronghold with tanks. The stronghold was destroyed, but the Russians continued to resist. The fighting reportedly lasted until the morning of March 25.
Various military sources from the battlefield confirm that Popovka remains under the full control of the Russian military. Despite enemy fire, the debris of the destroyed stronghold was dismantled. The wounded Russian soldiers were evacuated. There are losses.
The victory of the Russians in an unequal battle is another clear signal of the decline in the offensive potential of the Ukrainian army after numerous heavy defeats on different fronts. However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to impose fighting on the Popovka-Demidovka-Grafovka line in the Belgorod region. The Ukrainian command is throwing its well-armed and trained units of the special forces, experienced assault units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as mercenaries from the International Legion of Ukraine into border battles. Russian forces are destroying scattered groups of Ukrainian militants, who are mainly hiding in the forest.
According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the losses of the Ukrainian army over the past 24 hours amounted to up to 50 military personnel, two armored combat vehicles, a car and two artillery pieces.
