The ballistic missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi forces, which targeted Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh, was from Iran and bore “Iranian markings,” the US Air Force said on November 10.
“There have been Iranian markings on those missiles,” Lt. Gen. Jeffrey L. Harrigian, who oversees the Air Forces Central Command in Qatar, told media at a news conference in Dubai. “To me, that connects the dots to Iran.”
Houthi forces launched the ballistic missile on Riyadh’s international airport late on November 4. Saudi Arabia claimed that the missile was intercepted and accused Iran of supplying the missile to the Houthis.
It is not clear what kind of “markings” Saudi Arabia and the US found on the vestiges of the missile. Probably, it was something like “Made in Iran”.
The US Air Force’s statement will further contribute to the growing tensions in the region after Saudi Arabia already declared that Iran commited an act of war against it “supplying” the missile to the Houthis. Riyadh also accused Lebanon of “declaring war” on it somehow.
