On the northern front of the Special Military Operation there are fierce battles that could affect the entire configuration of the contact line. The Ukrainian command does not give up its attempts to attack despite the lack of resources.
While the main attention on the fronts of the Ukrainian war is focused on the southern directions of Donetsk and Zaporozhye, in the north a positional confrontation continues, which, however, can play a decisive role in the current conflict. We are talking about the Kursk and Kharkov directions. Most of the reserves of the Ukrainian Armed Forces command are deployed here. The Ukrainian Armed Forces do not stop trying to launch counterattacks and at all costs hold a bridgehead in the form of captured Russian territory in the Suja district.
According to El Pais, the number of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region exceeds the number of military personnel defending positions in Donbass. The rotation of personnel takes place every 10 days, while in Kurakhovo (Donetsk People’s Republic) – every 25 days. The two most heavily manned units of the Ukrainian army are operating in the direction of Kursk – the 95th and 80th Airborne Assault Brigades, armed with German Leopard and American Abrams tanks. A sergeant of the 225th Assault Battalion named Yaroslav told Spanish reporters that the command’s task was to “continue the offensive.
The active actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are accompanied with significant problems, especially with military equipment and ammunition. According to El Pais, Ukrainian units are experiencing a shortage of artillery shells and the malfunction of much of the ammunition supply. The commander of an assault company named Yevgeniy complained to the Spaniards that only 10 Polish-Ukrainian Oncilla armored vehicles had been provided for the 340-man battalion. Such an armored vehicle can carry about ten soldiers. Air supremacy belongs entirely to the Russians. Ukrainian troops cannot use the Starlink satellite communications system in the Kursk region.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Ukrainians are suffering heavy losses from artillery fire and Russian air strikes.
Units of the “North” group of forces defeated formations of the 41st, 44th, 47th, 115th Mechanized, 82nd, 95th Airborne Assault Brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, 117th and 129th Territorial Defense Brigades of the AFU in the areas of Alexandria, Daryino, Leonidovo, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Plekhovo and Sverdlikovo.
Operational-tactical and army aviation and artillery strikes hit enemy personnel and equipment in the areas of Bogdanovka, Guevo, Kurilovka, Lebedevka, Loknya, Martynovka, Mikhailovka, Nizhny Klin, Nikolayevka, Nikolsky, Orlovka, Pogrebki, Russkoe Porechnoye and Cherkasskoe Porechnoye, as well as Basovka and Zhuravka in the Sumy region.
During the day, the losses of the AFU amounted to 420 servicemen, two American-made infantry fighting vehicles “Bradley”, one German-made infantry fighting vehicle “Marder”, four armored fighting vehicles, four cars, one German-made 155-mm self-propelled artillery unit “PzH-2000”, one 152-mm self-propelled artillery unit “Acacia”, one 152-mm gun “D-20” and three 122-mm howitzers “D-30”. Twenty-four AFU servicemen surrendered as POWs.
In the Kharkov region there has been a stagnation of the front for some time. However, Russia is using the tactic of harassing attacks on various sections of the state border. On November 16, Ukrainian sources reported that Russian forces had taken control of the border village of Sotnitskyy Kazachok. Position battles are underway in Volchansk. Russian military channels report the capture of four houses in recent days. They also note the elimination of an attempted breakout group near the village of Malye Prokhody.

Units of the “North” group of troops in the direction of Kharkov defeated formations of the 57th motorized infantry brigade of the AFU and the 5th border detachment of the Ukrainian Border Guard Service in the areas of Volchansk, Basovo and Kazachya Lopan in the Kharkov region.
The AFU suffered losses of up to 50 servicemen and two vehicles.
