Bloody battles for the village of Krynki on the eastern bank of the Dnieper River continue. Despite heavy losses, the Ukrainian military command does not stop sending reinforcements across the river in an attempt to save control of the small stronghold in the ruins. In January, 2024, the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kherson region amounted to almost 2 thousand servicemen killed and wounded, 90 boats, 13 howitzers, 26 self-propelled guns.
The Ukrainian grouping both on the eastern and southern banks of the Dnieper in the Kherson region are pounded by Russian aircraft and artillery. Suffering from the shell starvation, Ukrainian forces respond with massive drone strikes, supported by shelling with cluster munitions.
The Russian military is also massively using UAVs, destroying most of the Ukrainian boats on their way to the Russian eastern bank.
Due to heavy losses, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have changed the routes of transferring supplies by boats and are moving to Krynki through other water channels; but they are also often discovered by Russian UAVs. Due to the lack of any fortifications on the shore, Ukrainian forces also attempt to probe other landing points near the village of Krynki, but these operations bring no results on the ground.
In an attempt to reduce losses, and with support from NATO, the Ukrainian military began equipping boats with mobile EW systems. They allowed to slightly increase the number of boats that reach the easter bank; but they did not allow to totally secure the operations across the river.
More ans more Ukrainian boats with mobile EW systems are seen destroyed by Russian strikes.
