On the evening of July 1, the Crimean peninsula came under the second attack in a day. The missile attack targeted the city of Sevastopol on the western coast of the peninsula.
Russian air defense forces were active repelling the strikes. According to preliminary reports, the attack was launched with the US-made Storm Shadow missiles.
As a result of the attack, the governor of Sevastopol reported the destruction of 5 air targets over the city. The targets were destroyed by Russian forces in the Black Sea and in the area of Balaklava in the city.
During the attack, a large explosion thundered on the outskirts of the city. It was confirmed by the footage from the city. During the attack, the local authorities claimed tha one of the strikes was the result of the wreckage fallen on the outskirts. However, the scale of the smoke seen in the area supposed that it sould be a result of the strike of a missile.
The local authorities confirmed some small damage to several civilian houses. 3 cars were damaged by the wreckage. Fortunately, casualties were avoided as a result of the attack.
On the night of July 1, the Armed Forces of Ukraine supported by the NATO military attempted another attack on the peninsula. The strikes reportedly targeted the eastern coast, presumably, the Crimean bridge. The night attack was repelled. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that in total, eight Storm Shadow missiles over the past day.
