New Videos Of Azerbaijani Strikes On Armenian Forces Emerge As Situation In Karabakh Cools Down

As the situation in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh cools down, new videos of Azerbaijani drone strikes on Armenian forces continue to emerge.

On September 15, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense shared videos of recent strikes by Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 combat drones on several Armenian positions and military trucks across the frontline in Nagorno-Karabakh.

One of the videos also shows the aftermath of intensive Azerbaijani artillery strikes that targeted a large base in the Armenian village of Sotk.

Fighting broke out in Nagorno-Karabakh late on September 12. Azerbaijan accused Arminian forces of carrying out a “large-scale provocation” in the directions of Dashkasan, Kalbajar and Lachin in violation of the Russian-brokered 2020 ceasefire.

The confrontation went on until the afternoon of September 14, when the two sides reached a deal to return to the ceasefire with help from Russia. The Armenian Ministry of Defense said that the situation along the frontline in Nagorno-Karabakh was quiet following the deal, and that no ceasefire violations were reported. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan has not commented on the reported deal, yet.

Armenia acknowledged that 105 of its troops were killed in the two-day confrontation. From its side, Azerbaijan said that 72 of its service members were killed.

The United Nations welcomed the ceasefire on September 15. UN Assistant Secretary-General Miroslav Jenca said: “The international community must remain fully committed to a peaceful settlement between Armenia and Azerbaijan and spare no effort to de-escalate the current tensions, bring the parties back to the negotiation table and help them achieve peace and stability in the region.”

The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh remains tense. The Azerbaijani Armed Forces are reportedly preparing to launch a new limited offensive against Armenian forces. This could lead to a larger confrontation in the region.
