On February 7, the Iranian military officially opened new underground airbase Oghab 44 (“Eagle 44”). The military underground facility is hosts different military aircraft, including fighters, bombers and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The opening ceremony was attended by Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Hossein Bakeri and commander of the Iranian Army, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi.

The Oghab 44 military base includes several sections, like a combat duty zone, hangars for aircraft, a repair and technical center, navigation and airfield services, fuel storages, and a command post.

Photos shared by the Iranian press services showed F-4 Phantom fighter-bombers and Arash-2 kamikaze UAVs. One of the F4s is seen with the latest Yasin high-precision bomb capable of hitting targets at a distance of more than 50 kilometers.

Earlier, another underground military base for UAVs Drone Base 313 was built by the Iranian Air Force. According to some reports, Iran is going to build a network of underground military bases unseen for the foreign intelligence. Such underground military bases are usually built by the Iranian military in mountainous areas, so that the military aircraft could conduct quick surprise operations.
