This map provides a general look at the military situation in Syria on July 20, 2018:
- The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies have been delivering a final blow to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in southern Syria. On July 19, militants accepted a surrender agreement and started handing over their territories and weapons to the SAA.
- Almost all civilians and members of the National Defense Forces have been evacuated from the villages of al-Fu’ah and Kafriya in southern Idlib. These villages still formally remain under the government control. Nonetheless, soon, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and its allies will capture this area.
- The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have continued their steadily advance on the remaining ISIS positions in the northeastern part of Deir Ezzor province and the southern part of al-Hasakah province. Recently, the SDF has captured over 8 points from ISIS cells. However, the terrorist group still controls a large chunk of the border area.
