This map provides a general look at the military situation in Syria and Iraq on October 6, 2017:
- Iraqi forces have liberated the town of Hawija and many nearby points from ISIS west of Kirkuk.
- The Syrian Arab Amry (SAA) and its allies are clashing with ISIS in the area of Sukhna where the terrorist group has launched a large attack on government forces.
- At the same time, the SAA has advancedtowards the ISIS stronghold of Mayadin in the Euphrates Valley. Mayadin is one of the most important ISIS strong points east of Deir Ezzor.
- The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have further advanced inside Raqqah city and on the eastern bank of the Euphrates. However, no major gains have been achieved.
