This map provides a general look at the military situation in Syria and Iraq on December 14, 2017:
- The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces have officially announced control over the town of Suwaydan in the province of Deir Ezzor;
- ISIS has further advanced against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) south of al-Mayadin, on the western bank of the Euphrates. Clashes are ongoing in the villages of Kashma, al-Jalaa, Saiyal, Salihiyah, Mujawda, Abbas and al-Harsa;
- The SAA has repelled an ISIS attack north of the Yarmouk refugee camp in southrn Damascus;
- The SAA and its allies have resumed operations against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) in southern Aleppo. Clashes are ongoing in the area of Rsm al-Kabarah.
