This map provides a general look at the military situation in Syria and Iraq on December 1, 2017:
- Iraqi forces have halted temporarily halted their operations against ISIS in western Iraq. Now, they are working to secure the recentliy liberated areas west of Baiji. As soon as this is done, they will likely continue their advance;
- The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are consolidating their gains on the eastern bank of the Euphrates. No clashes have been reported between reported between the SDF and ISIS there recently. Some sources speculated that the SDF and ISIS had reached a ceasefire agreement in the area. The SDF denied it.
- Clashes between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Ahrar al-Sham continued in the Eastern Ghouta region, near Damascus.
- In the Beit Jin pocket, the SAA is tightening siege on the town of Beit Jin controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda);
- In northern Hama and southern Aleppo, the SAA is clashing with HTS and its allies. No singificant advadnces have been reported recently. However, the SAA Tiger Forces have been reportedly redeployed some units from the province of Deir Ezzor to a frontline against HTS in order to support the expected advance on the Abu al-Duhur Airbase.
