The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are completing their mop up operations, destroying the last Ukrainian forces in the border areas in the Kursk region. There are two small Ukrainian bridgeheads left to destroy on Russian territory.
On March 28th, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation officially confirmed the full control of the village of Gogolevka located west of Sudzha. The retreating Ukrainian troops attempted to resist in the western part of the village for several days, but failed to stop Russian advance. Russian control of Gogolevka was also confirmed by the footage of the liberated Sudzha checkpoint shared the day before. The checkpoint is located west of the village.
The video shows Russian flags, raised by fighters of the 51st Regiment, waving over the ruined border checkpoint. It confirms that the Russian military secured control both of the buildings and areas nearby.
On the morning of March 28th, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the Sudzha gas measuring station, presumably, with the US-made HIMARS MLRS. Thus, the strikes confirm that the Ukrainian army now lost control of the facility.
According to preliminary reports from the frontlines, the Russian troops largely expanded their zone of control and launched assault on the last Ukrainian stronghold in the area. Russian forces reportedly entered the village of Oleshnya from the north.
At the same time, Russian forces are expanding their bridgehead in the neighbor Ukrainian Sumy region. They completed the mop up operations in the areas east of Basovka and secured their control near the border.
Russian strikes on retreating Ukrainian forces:
After main stage of their offensive in the Sudzha district was successfully completed, the Russian troops began to destroy the second Ukrainian bridgehead in the border areas near the town of Guevo. The recent Russian attacks there also forces the Ukrainian troops to retreat.
Russian forces took control of the forest areas north and east of Guevo and launched assault on the town. Russian soldiers were filmed near the local distillery. According to preliminary reports from the battlefield, the Armed Forces of Ukraine began a chaotic retreat in an attempt to escape from the area.
Battles in Guevo:
According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, over the past day alone, the Ukrainian army lost more than 320 military personnel, five armored combat vehicles, six vehicles, two artillery pieces, two ATVs and an electronic reconnaissance station, as well as three UAV control points in the Kursk region.
The Kursk invasion turned into disaster. Ukrainian propaganda is trying its best to hide the huge losses that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have suffered, both in manpower and military equipment, including from NATO. The border region is still covered with the abandoned bodies of thousands of dead Ukrainians and foreign mercenaries.
The first citizen of Switzerland, whose death in Ukrainian battles was confirmed, is Hugo Edine John Diserense, born in 1999, Lausanne, was killed in battles on December 25, 2024 in Viktorovka, Kursk region:
British mercenary James Scott Anderson was taken prisoner in November, 2024:
On March 28th alone, Russia returned 909 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers. In response, Kiev sent 43 bodies to Russia. They included 35 deceased Russian servicemen and 8 bodies of civilians, residents of the Kursk region, who were abducted to Ukraine during the occupation and died on Ukrainian territory. 25 residents of the Kursk region returned home from the territory of Ukraine.
This is far from the first unequal exchanges, but it once again clearly shows the balance of power on Ukrainian frontlines.
