The war between the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Palestinian forces led by Hamas continue for the fourth day in a row, while the number of victims is growing.

On October 10, the IDF once again claimed that the Israeli military had regained control of the border with the Gaza Strip and ‘not a single militant was able to cross the border over the last day.’ The Israeli military continues mining areas near the destroyed fence.

At the same time, the army spokesman added that a small number of Hamas militants are still hiding in Israel. Thus, the Israeli military failed to secure its territory during the first four days of hostilities.

Strikes in Ashdod:

On October 9, clashes broke out after another Palestinian landing operation in the area of Zikim. The Maglan IDF unit is reportedly fighting in the area. At night, Palestinian militants reportedly entered Saad and Nahal Oz but were repelled. Some clashes continued on the outskirts of Sderot, where the IDF continue the mop up operations. Hamas earlier claimed that Palestinian forces reached the town of Rahat, 30 kilometers from the Gaza Strip. The IDF later claimed their destruction in the area. The situation remains tense in the area of the kibbutz of Beeri, where Palestinians entered days before. The IDF continue the mop up operation in the area.

The Israeli military is still preparing for the ground assault, sending military equipment to the southern border. According to The Jerusalem Post, the Israeli government has approved the conscription of up to 360 thousand additional reservists. Reuters also reported that the Israeli Air Force sent planes to Europe to transfer “hundreds of Israeli troops” from there so that they could participate in the fighting against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The day before, Israel reported that 300 thousand people had been mobilized in two days since the beginning of the new conflict.

The Israeli Army claimed the destruction of 200 targets in the Gaza Strip overnight. The death toll of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank has risen to 770, 4,100 were wounded, the local Health Ministry reported.

On October 10,  the strikes resumed.

Israel killed three journalists last night. Saeed al-Taweel, Mohammad Sobh and Hisham al-Nawajha were killed while filming the evacuation of civilians in besieged Gaza, that was then hit by Israeli airstrikes.

Israel had previously claimed that any humanitarian aid supplies to Gaza will be destroyed. On October 10, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Gaza reported strikes on the Rafah checkpoint on the border with Egypt after Egypt had asked to evacuate people from there. The Rafah checkpoint opened in 2005 after the conclusion of the Palestinian-Israeli agreement. This is the only checkpoint between the Gaza Strip and the outside world, apart from those that are located on the border with Israel and do not work. As a result of the Israeli warning strike near the checkpoint, the crossing was reportedly closed until further notice and Egypt turned back trucks with fuel and goods heading to Gaza.

Clashes are still reported in the Shuafat refugee camp near Jerusalem. At night, clashes reportedly broke out in Jenin in the West Bank. On the morning, the Israeli military reportedly stormed the cities of Nablus, Bethlehem and Qalqiliya.

Exchange of strikes continue on the northern Israeli border. At about midnight, Hezbollah launched rocket attacks on the Israeli barracks in response to the death of three fighters ain Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon. In response to the shelling from Lebanon, Israel struck the settlements of Aita al-Shaab, Marwahin, Az-Zalutia, Al-Duheira, Yarun. According to unconfirmed reports, one of Hezbollah’s field commanders, Abdul Hamid Shari, was killed.

The deputy commander of the 300th Brigade of the IDF, Lieutenant Colonel Alim Abdallah, was killed in a battle with armed militants that penetrated into Israel from Lebanon.
