The Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) are working to secure their gains in northwestern Syria.
On March 24, the Turkish military claimed that the area of Afrin is under “complete” control of the TAF and the FSA. However, the situation in the area remains complicated. Sabotage and reconnaissance groups of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) are still capable of conducting hit and run attacks deep in the rear of the Turkish forces deplyed in the Afrin area.
According to local sources, the TAF and the FSA are still struggling to remove all the mines and IEDs planted by the YPG across the region. Syrian pro-government experts speculate that Ankara will have a notable time before the area will be fully secured.
