These maps provide a look at the development of the military situation in the province of Idlib and the nearby areas since the start of 2018. The Syrian Arab Army and other pro-government groups, backed by Russia and Iran, have cleared a large chunk of the territory in northeastern Hama, southern Aleppo and eastern Idlib from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda).
