The Libyan Air Force (LAF) has carried out a series of airstrikes on the Air Academy near the northern city of Misrata for the first time ever.
According to Libyan sources, seven airstrikes targeted the Air Academy’s military section in the early hours of July 27.
The Libyan National Army (LNA) has not commented on the aerial attack, yet. However, a military source told Sputnik that “military targets” inside the Air Academy were destroyed.
Misrata’s Air Academy is one of the main bases of the Government of National Accord (GNA) air force. Beside hosting warplanes of several types, the base has several training and maintenance facilities.
This new aerial attack comes as the LNA continues its steady advance towards the Libyan capital, Tripoli. On July 27, army units were reportedly able to capture the al-Nuqilah camp south of the capital’s center.
