The Russian military’s Sever Group of Forces repelled more Ukrainian attacks in the direction of Kursk, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on August 23.
In a briefing, the ministry said that Kiev forces were prevented from advancing towards the settlements of Borki, Malaya Loknya, Komarovka, Korenevo, Martynovka and Russkaya Konopelka. At least 70 Ukrainian troops were killed or wounded. Two armored fighting vehicles, and one motor vehicle were also destroyed.
A Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group was also detected and neutralized near the settlement of Kamyshevka, according to the ministry, which said that five troops and one motor vehicle were neutralized.
The ministry added that Russian air and artillery strikes inflicted losses on Ukraine’s 22nd, 61st, and 115th mechanized brigades and the 80th air assault brigades close to the settlements of Apanasovka, Aleksandria, Vishnevka, Guyevo, Mikhailovka, Lyubymivka, Malaya Loknya, Plekhovo, Snagost and Yuzhny.
Other strikes hit reserves of the 41st, 54th mechanized brigades, 82nd and 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, 101st, 103rd, 106th, and 129th territorial defense brigades as well as the 69th Rifle Battalion close to the settlements of Aleksandrovka, Bachevsk, Buyankino, Vorozhba, Glukhov, Kamenka, Miropolye, Mogritsa, Novaya Sloboda, Obody, Pervomayskoye, Pavlovka, Svessa, Seredina Buda and Tolstodubovo, according to the ministry.
“In the past 24 hours, the AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to up to 400 Ukrainian troops and 17 armored vehicles, including one tank, two armored personnel carriers, 14 armored fighting vehicles, two artillery guns, one MLRS launcher, two mortars, and 10 motor vehicles,” the ministry said.
“Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses amounted to up to 5,137 Ukrainian troops, 69 tanks, 27 infantry fighting vehicles, 55 armored personnel carriers, 350 armored fighting vehicles, 158 motor vehicles, 34 artillery guns, five SAM [surface-to-air missile] launchers, 11 multiple-launch rocket systems, including three of HIMARS system and one of MLRS [multiple launch rocket] system, six electronic warfare stations, as well as four units of engineering vehicles, including two counter obstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle,” it concluded.
The ministry also released video footage showing strikes by Mi-28NM attack helicopters and Su-34 fighter bombers as well as two recent strikes with Lancet loitering munitions in the Kursk direction.
Kiev forces backed by foreign mercenaries infiltrated Kursk on August 6, in a surprise attack that was apparently orchestrated with help from NATO. The attack has so far claimed the lives of dozens of Russian civilians and displaced tens of thousands.
The Russian military has already halted the advance of Kiev forces in Kursk. Currently, working is undergoing to liberate the region.
