The Russian military’s Sever Group of Forces repelled several attacks by Kiev forces near the settlements of Borki, Spalnoye, Cherkasskoye Porechnoye and Malaya Loknya in the Kursk direction, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on August 24.
In a briefing, the ministry also said that Kiev forces attempts to advance close to the settlements of Komarovka and Kremyanoye with no success
Ukrainian losses in these failed attacks amounted to 60 troops, who were killed or wounded, as well as one tank, seven armored fighting vehicles and two motor vehicles, according to the ministry, which noted that ten troops also surrendered to the Russian military.
In addition, the ministry said that Russian air and artillery strikes inflicted losses on Ukraine’s 22nd, 61st, 115th mechanized brigades, 82nd Air Assault Brigade and 1st National Guard Brigade near the settlements of Apanasovka, Vishnyovka, Borki, Krasnooktyabrsky, Kruglenkoye, Mikhaylovka, Lyubimovka, Malaya Loknya, Plekhovo, Snagost, and Yuzhny.
Other strikes hit the reserves of the 41st, 54th, and 61st mechanized brigades, 82nd Air Assault Brigade, 103rd, 106th, 119th, 129th territorial defense brigades, 1st and 17th national guard brigades close to the settlements of Atinskoye, Glukhov, Druzhba, Zhuravka, Zapseliye, Kalinov, Novaya Sloboda, Pervomayskoye, Pavlovka, Sadki, Svessa. Sumy, Surovatka, Chuikova and Yampol.
“Over the past 24 hours, the AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to more than 360 troops and 29 units of hardware including two tanks, three infantry fighting vehicles, two armored personnel carriers, 22 armored fighting vehicles, two artillery guns, 12 motor vehicles, one Bukovel-AD electronic warfare stations, and one counter-battery warfare station,” the ministry said.
“Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses amounted to more than 5,500 troops, 71 tanks, 30 infantry fighting vehicles, 57 armored personnel carriers, 372 armored fighting vehicles, 170 motor vehicles, 36 artillery guns, five SAM [surface-to-air missile] launchers, 11 MLRS [multiple launch rocket systems], including three of HIMARS system and one of MLRS system, seven electronic warfare stations, one counter-battery warfare station, four units of engineering vehicles, including two counter obstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle,” it added.
Russian media also released several videos showing strikes against Kiev forces in Kursk and the neighboring Ukrainian region of Sumy.
Kiev forces launched their surprise attack in Kursk on August 6. Western-made weapons and foreign mercenaries played a key role in the attack, which was apparently orchestrated with help from NATO. The attack came to a halt within a few days.
Since the start of the attack, at least 31 Russian civilians have been killed and more than 140 others have been wounded. Moreover, the attack displaced more than 140,000 civilians. The fate of some 2,000 others who lived in areas attacked by Kiev forces remain unknown.
