The Ukrainian military acknowledged deaths of a large number of its servicemen as a result of Russian strike in the Zaporozhie region on November 3. The Russian military released footage of the attack and revealed some details.
Russian reconnaissance UAV coordinated the attack on the officers of the 128th separate mountain assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who gathered for the awarding ceremony. It was revealed that the attack took place in the village of Dimitrovo in the Zaporozhie region. The footage from the drone confirms that the Russian military was aware in advance of the upcoming ‘ceremony’ there. The UAV filmed the movement of the Ukrainian military in the village, as well as the very moment of the strike.
In its turn, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine recognized the attack and claimed the deaths of about 20 servicemen, which corresponded to the preliminary number claimed by Ukrainian sources. The former Ukrainian head of the Zaporozhye administration claimed that 28 Ukrainian soldiers were killed, 53 others were wounded.
Some Russian sources, which are close to the military, supposed that about 50 Ukrainian servicemen were killed and 18 others were wounded. The great number of casualties is also confirmed by the fact that the Transcarpathia region of Ukraine has already declared three days of mourning for the dead.
Citing the interception of radio communications of the 128th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian military sources reported that the brigade commander and the deputy commander of the division for moral and psychological support were also dead.
The Ukrainian military command is looking for culprits to punish. The commanders who fell victims are likely to be blamed for their criminal negligence. Meanwhile, Russian intelligence continues its operations looking for new targets in the Ukrainian rear areas.
