On the morning of March 6, residents of the town of Pyeongchong located 43 kilometers from the capital of South Korea woke up assured that the war with North Korea began. Their town was heavily bombed.

On March 6, the South Korean city of Pyeongchong was heavily bombed, Yonhap news agency reported, citing statements from the military and firefighters. The incident happened at about 10 a.m. local time. Eight explosions thundered in the residential areas. It turned out that South Korean fighter jets accidentally dropped bombs on the town as part of military exercises.

The bombs fell from a South Korean KF-16 fighter jet, which took part in international exercises with the US military at the Seungjin training ground near Pyeongyang. According to the press service of the Republic of Korea Air Force, the KF-16 aircraft accidentally dropped eight MK-82 bombs. In addition to the KF-16 fighters, the F-35A, FA-50 and F-15K were involved in the joint exercises of the United States and South Korea.

As a result of the bomb explosion, seven people were wounded, four of them received severe wounds. Several buildings in the village were destroyed. The South Korean command expressed regret over the incident, and also promised to pay compensation to the victims and wished them a speedy recovery.
