A paramedic from the Hezbollah-affiliated Islamic Health Authority was killed and another was wounded on May 30 in an Israeli strike on southern Lebanon.
A Lebanese military source told the Chinese Xinhua news agency that an ambulance was destroyed after an Israeli drone targeted it with two missiles when it was traveling from the town of Naqoura to the city of Tyre.
Civil defense teams worked to extinguish the fire and transported the body of the victim and the injured individual to a hospital in Tyre, the unnamed source added.
The slain paramedic, Haider Mahmoud Jahir, was later mourned by the Islamic Health Authority, which said in a statement that he was killed “on the road to Jerusalem,” a term used by Hezbollah and its affiliates to describe those killed in the ongoing confrontation with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
The IDF later said that it carried out a strike against a building used by Hezbollah in Naqoura after identifying a terror cell there. Another strike, in the southern Lebanese town of Yaroun, targeted a Hezbollah fighter, the IDF added in a statement.
The deadly strike came after Hezbollah launched five rocket and drone attacks in the morning and early afternoon, targeting two border sites of the IDF, an Iron Dome air defense system and two settlements.
The group announced another attack after the strike on Naqoura. In a statement, it said that its fighters targeted the IDF’s Ma’ayan Baruch site with rockets and artillery “in support of the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and to back their brave and honorable resistance.”
In addition, the IDF said that a drone launched from Lebanon entered Israeli airspace and was then shot down by air defenses over the northern coastal city of Acre. No casualties were reported. Hezbollah has not yet claimed responsibility for this attack.
Since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza last October, Hezbollah and its allies began launching near-daily attacks against the IDF in support of the Hamas Movement and other Palestinian armed factions in the Strip.
So far, the border clashes have resulted in ten civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 14 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 400 people have been killed, including 306 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 80 civilians.
