Israeli Military Shares Footage Of Failed Hezbollah Drone Operation

File image.

On January 14, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) released a video documenting a recent failed attempt by two alleged operatives of Hezbollah to launch a small quadcopter drone near the separation line between Lebanon and Israel.

IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee claimed that the two operatives wanted to use the drone to collect intelligence on Israeli-held areas.

The IDF also released a photo of another Hezbollah operative who took part in a drone exercise that was recently held in an unspecified part of Lebanon’s South Governorate. Some footage of the exercise were recovered from a downed Hezbollah drone and made public by the IDF on January 7.

Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee said that the number of Hezbollah drones shot down by the IDF’s Galilee Formation increased in the last few months thanks to a new system, without elaborating.

Hezbollah has been using small, commercially-bought drones to monitor IDF activities along the separation line for a few years now.

Israel, whose fighter jets, drones and warships violate Lebanon’s sovereignty on a regular basis, may be planning to use the issue of Hezbollah drone operations along the separation line as a pretext for a political or a military escalation against Lebanon.
