The Houthis (Ansar Allah) launched a missile from Yemen at Israel on March 30, in the eighth such attack since the offensive on the Gaza Strip was renewed.
In a statement, Houthi military spokesman, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said that the group launched a Zulfiqar ballistic missile at Ben Gurion Airport in the center of Israel.
“Through this operation, the Yemeni Armed Forces confirm that the American aggression had failed to prevent Yemen from continuing its support operations for the oppressed Palestinian people,” the spokesman said.
“The dozens of daily raids will not deter the Armed Forces from performing their religious, moral and humanitarian duties. With God’s help, they will continue their operations against the Israeli enemy until the aggression on Gaza stops and the siege is lifted,” he added.
Amid the missile attack, warning sirens across central Israel, in several towns near Jerusalem, and in some West Bank settlements.
The Israel Defense Forces said later the missile launched from Yemen was shot down before crossing the country’s borders.
Hebrew media reported that a 42-year-old woman was moderately wounded when she fell from a significant height into a ditch at the side of the Route 1 highway between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem while seeking shelter.
This was at least the eighth Houthi attack to target Israel since March 18, when the IDF renewed its offensive on Gaza. Since then, Israeli military operations have claimed the lives of more than 800 Palesitnians, including women and children.
Earlier in the day, the Houthis announced that they had launched three separate attacks against the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman and other warships of the United States Navy in the Red Sea. There was no comment from the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
CENTCOM resumed strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen on March 15 on orders from U.S. President Donald Trump, who said that the large-scale operation was launched in response to the group’s renewed attacks on shipping in the Red Sea. Some 57 people have been killed since the start of the operation.
Overnight, Al-Masirah TV, which is run by the Houthis, reported that a dozen U.S. strikes hit the central province of Sanaa, and the northern province of Sadaa. There were no reports of losses, however.
All in all, the U.S. military operation is yet to deter the Houthis or degrade their offensive capabilities. Israel could soon resume strikes against Yemen causing more escalation.
