The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) continues to hunt down Hezbollah members in southern Lebanon, without facing any response from the group.
Earlier on March 27, the confirmed carrying out a drone strike in the town Derdghaiya, adjacent to the town of Maaroub in southern Lebanon, killing Ahmed Adnan Bajija, a battalion commander in Hezbollah’s elite Radwan force.
The military said in a statement the commander was involved in directing numerous attacks on Israel and IDF troops amid the war, and in recent months, amid the ceasefire, “continued to engage in advancing terror attacks on the Israeli home front.”
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said that one man was killed in the attack. The IDF released footage of the deadly pinpoint strike.
The IDF said it targeted a group of Hezbollah fighters who were identified as moving weapons around the Yohmor area in southern Lebanon. Lebanon’s Health Ministry confirmed later that three men were killed in the attack.
Hezbollah began launching attacks against Israel on October 8 of 2023, in support of the Palestinian Hamas Movement, which had launched a surprise attack from the Gaza Strip into Israel just a day earlier. After taking heavy losses, the group agreed to a ceasefire.
The ceasefire, which was brokered by the United States last November, was supposed to end all clashes on the Israeli-Lebanese border by February 18. However, the IDF continues to launch strikes against Hezbollah. It also continues to deploy troops at five strategic posts in southern Lebanon.
So far, Hezbollah has refrained from responding to Israel’s repeated attacks. The group, which was once considered a regional player, appears to have lost deterrence and its ability to recover remains in doubt.
