Damascus following the last night strike
The last night Israeli airstrike on an Iranian position south of the Syrian capital of Damascus may have prevented a pre-planned Iranian attack on Israel, the Israeli Jerusalem Post reported on May 9.
The Syrian Observatory for Humanitarian Rights (SOHR) said that missile launchers and an ammo depot of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had been destroyed by the Israel airstrike on the al-Kiswah area south of Damascus. The SOHR also claimed that eight members of the IRGC had been killed in the airstrike along with seven pro-government fighters. However, these claims are yet to be confirmed.
Although that the Israeli Army lowered the level of alert in the Golan Heights on May 9, Israeli sources reported that dozens of battle tanks and armored vehicles were deployed near the front with Syria. Reportedly, the Israeli Air Force also increased its activity over the Golan Heights.
Local observers believe that Israeli airstrike will not deter the IRGC, if it is indeed determined to strike the Israeli Army. However, there is no doubt that the recent Israeli airstrikes on the IRGC positions caused a notable damage to the Iranian force’s operations in Syria.
