Hezbollah launched on September 10 another wave of attacks against the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), drawing threats of war against Lebanon.
In separate statements, the group said it fired “dozens” of rockets at artillery positions of the 411th Battalion in the area of Neve Ziv and a command post currently occupied by forces of the elite Golani Brigade at the Mount Neria base
It added that the reserve headquarters of the Northern Corps and the Galilee Division reserve base and its logistics warehouses in the area of Ami’ad were targeted with “squadrons” of suicide drones. Video footage of the attack was released.
The group also said that it shelled the sites of Ruwisat al-Alam and al-Abbasiyah with artillery, targeted a gathering of Israeli troops in the site of al-Rahib and struck surveillance equipment of the IDF in the site of al-Abad using “suitable weapons.”
The attacks were carried out in support of the Palestinian people and resistance in the Gaza Strip as well as in response to recent Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon, Hezbollah noted in its statement.
From its side, the IDF said that a barrage of 30 rockets was launched at the Mount Meron area with 15 other rockets targeting the Western Galilee. It also confirmed that several drones were launched at Israel, with some impacting near Ami’ad. No casualties were reported, however.
In an apparent response to the attacks, the IDF announced on September 11 that it struck 30 rocket launchers and other targets of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon overnight. The targets were located in the towns of Jebbayn, Naqoura, Deir Seryan and Zibqin.
Hezbollah and its allies have been launching near-daily attacks against Israel in support of the Hamas Movement and other Palestinian armed factions in Gaza since the outbreak of the war on the Strip last October. While Israel has so far limited its response to air and artillery strikes, the situation appears to be about to escalate.
Speaking to troops during a drill simulating a ground offensive in Lebanon on September 10, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said Israel is shifting its focus to the northern front as it aims to soon achieve its objectives in the Gaza Strip.
“The center of gravity is moving to the north, we are nearing the completion of our missions in the south, but we have a task here that has not been carried out, and this mission is to change the security situation and return the residents to their homes,” the minister told reservists of the Oded Brigade in northern Israel.
“These instructions you are waiting for, I gave in the south and saw the forces at work,” Gallant said, referring to Israel’s ground offensive in Gaza. He added that such orders “will come here as well and you should be prepared and ready to carry out this mission,” he added.
Gallant also said that the IDF was “finishing training the entire order of battle for a ground operation [in Lebanon], in all its aspects.”
“I’ve already seen in many circumstances where I stood next to troops who told me: ‘You are just talking.’ After a week I met them on the ground,” he added to the reserve soldiers.
So far, the limited confrontation has resulted in 26 civilian deaths in Israel and the occupied Golan as well as the deaths of at least 20 soldiers and security officers. On the Lebanese side, more than 870 people have been killed, including 435 fighters of Hezbollah and over 150 civilians.
