Israel Killed Over 900 In Its Attack On Iran

Israel killed a total of 935 people during its 12-day war on Iran, the official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported on June 30.

Israel started the war on June 13, stating that its goal was to cripple Iran’s nuclear program. A ceasefire was suddenly announced on June 24, just two days after the United States joined the war by attacking three key nuclear sites in the Islamic Republic.

IRNA did not give a breakdown between military and civilian deaths, but said of the 935 people, 38 were children and 132 were women, quoting judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir. The spokesman also said that 79 people were killed in Tehran’s Evin Prison, which was one of several so-called “regime targets” that Israel struck in the final days of the war. The previous casualty figure for the Evin strike was 71.

The official Iranian numbers are not that far off from what was reported by the Human Rights Activists, a U.S.-based monitor that focuses on Iran.

The group said that 1,190 people were killed in the Israeli attack on Iran. Of those, it said 436 were civilians, 435 military and 319 have not yet been identified.

It’s worth noting that Israel killed more than 30 senior Iranian military commanders during the war, and was able to assassinate at least 11 of the Islamic Republic’s top nuclear scientists.

Iran retaliated to the Israeli attack by launching over 500 ballistic missiles and around 1,100 suicides drones at targets in Israel.

The retaliatory attacks killed 28 people, all but one of them civilians, and wounded over 3,000 in Israel, according to Israeli health officials.

Hebrew media reported a total of 36 missile impacts and one drone strike in populated areas across Israel. The impacts caused damage to 2,305 homes in 240 buildings, along with several vital targets, including a refinery and two research centers, and displaced over 13,000 Israelis.

The short war was likely just the first round of many to come. Israel is now preparing for a new military campaign against Iran.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said right after the ceasefire came into effect that he had instructed the military to “prepare an enforcement plan against Iran that includes maintaining Israel’s air superiority, preventing nuclear advancement and missile production, and responding to Iran for supporting terror activity against Israel.”
