On October 2, ISIS main news agency, Amaq, released a video showing intense clashes with the Egyptian military in the Sinai Peninsula.
The clashes took place on September 28, when the Egyptian military attempted to demolish buildings west of the city Sheikh Zuweid in northern Sinai. The terrorist group’s fighters were apparently using the buildings as hideouts.
In the video, ISIS fighters can be seen targeting a bulldozer of the Egyptian military with a DShK 12.7mm machine gun. An M-60 battle tank was also struck with what appears to be a rocket-propelled grenade.
Last week, several Egyptian service members were killed when ISIS cells raided their checkpoint in the northern part of Sinai. Within a few hours, security Egyptian forces responded by eliminating 15 terrorists in the region.
The recent attacks show that ISIS is regaining momentum in Sinai. Last year, the terrorist group suffered from serious losses as a result of the Egyptian military “Sinai 2018” large-scale operation.
