ISIS wing in Nigeria, the Islamic State-West Africa Province (ISWAP), continues to carry out attacks in the country’s northeastern state of Borno.

On January 28, ISWAP terrorists attacked a base of the Nigerian Armed Forces (NAF) located in the town of Agiri. The terrorists managed to storm the base after killing a soldier, according to the Amaq news agency.

Before withdrawing, the terrorists set the whole base on fire. Amaq released several photos of the attack on January 31.

On February 2, ISWAP terrorists targeted a convoy of the NAF and a local pro-government force as it was passing in the town of Ngumi with a heavy improvised explosive device (IED).

The IED’s massive explosion destroyed two military vehicles, killing Mali Said, a pro-government commander, and six of his guards, according to Amaq. The agency released photos of the ambush on February 3.

ISWAP cells have been intensifying their operations in Nigeria’s northeastern region, especially in the states of Borno and Yobe, for a while now.

The terrorist group appears to be determined to turn the whole northeastern region into its main stronghold in Nigeria. Government forces will have to make much more efforts to end this threat.
