ISIS official news agency, Amaq, has released a video identifying the terrorist responsible for the October 26 Shah Cheragh shrine shooting attack in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz.

At least 15 Shia worshipers, including a woman and two children, were killed and more than 40 others were wounded as a result of the terrorist attack which was quickly claimed by ISIS. On the same day, the intelligence of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) foiled a bombing attempt in a busy street near the shrine.

In the video, Amaq identified the gunman responsible for the attack as Abu Aisha al-Umari. The video shows the masked terrorist pledging allegiance to ISIS current leader Abu al-Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi in broken Arabic while holding the hand of an unidentified man who spoke Arabic fluently.

The terrorist was badly wounded and captured by Iranian security forces while carrying out the attack. He succumbed to his wounds in a hospital in Shiraz on October 29 morning. Amaq released its video just a few hours after his death was announced.

The attack came as Iran continues to face protests over the death of Mahsa Amini. The 22-year-old Kurdish woman died in September after being detained for allegedly violating the country’s Islamic dress code for women.

Thousands of mourners, who gathered on October 29 in Shiraz to bury the victims of the shrine attack, chanted slogans against nationwide riots over Amini’s death. At the funeral, IRGC chief, Major General Hossein Salami, called on Iranians to stop protesting.

This was ISIS’s first terrorist attack in Iran in a long while. The country’s political leaders and senior commanders of the IRGC have already vowed to take revenge for the victims of the attack.
