On December 28, ISIS fighters conducted a hit and run attack against a checkpoint of the Egyptian Army in the center of the city of Arish in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula according to Amaq. The sources said that an armored vehicle of the Egyptian Army was destroyed and two Egyptian soldiers were killed by ISIS fighters.
Amaq also reported that ISIS fighters attacked positions of the Egyptian Army in the Subiyka area west of Arish. The ISIS-linked news agency claimed that ISIS fighters destroyed a Humvee armored vehicle of the Egyptian Army with an IED and killed ten Egyptian soldiers during the attack. However, Egyptian sources said that only four Egyptian soldiers were killed in the Subiyka attack.
From its side, the Egyptian Army announced that its units foiled ISIS attacks in Arish. Egyptian soldiers killed three terrorists and destroyed four vehicles of ISIS while repelling the attacks, according to Colonel Tamer Rifai, a spokesman for the Egyptian Army.
Lately ISIS was able to conduct several terrorist attacks against the Egyptian Army and civilians after reorganize its units in the Sinai Peninsula and its cells across Egypt. The latest attack was on December 29 when an ISIS cell killed ten civilians in a Coptic Christian church south of the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
