Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) have identified and completely destroyed a “counter-revolutionary terrorist group” in the Nowdesheh area of the province of Kermanshah, near the border with Iraq, the Najaf Ashraf Base of the IRGC Ground Forces said in a statement on July 14.
One member of the IRGC’s Basij was killed in clashes with militants. The IRGC claimed that the cell had been planning to carry out acts of sabotage and measures against Iran’s national security after crossing the border. However, it provided no info about the identity of the neutralized militants or the group they were belonging.
The Iranian-Iraqi border is known for being an area of operations by the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, which have rear bases in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
