On July 2, two convoys moving logistic supplies and equipment for the US-led coalition came under attack in central and northern Iraq.

The first convoy was targeted near the city of Hillah in the central province of Babylon with an improvised explosive device (IED). No casualties were reported. The pro-Iranian Islamic Resistance in Iraq – ‘Ashab al-Kahf claimed responsibility for the attack.

The second convoy was attacked in an unspecified part of the northern province of Saladin. Several explosively formed penetrator IEDs were used in the attack. A newly-formed group calling itself The Second 20s Revolution Regiments claimed responsibility for the attack. The group also shared footage of the attack.

Pro-Iranian groups in Iraqi intensified their attacks on US-led coalition supply convoys in the last few weeks. On June 26 and 27, four convoys were attacked in different parts of Iraq.

The repeated attacks on US-led coalition supply convoys are meant as a response to the to the assassination of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Deputy-Commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units, and Commander of Iran’s Quds Force, Qassim Soleimani.

Iraqi “resistance” groups are determined to push US forces out from the country. From its side, Washington continues to dodge Iraqis’ demands of a complete withdrawal.
