Iraqi Resistance Attacks Two ‘Vital Targets’ In Israel’s Haifa

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), an umbrella group of Iran-backed armed factions, announced that it attack two “vital targets” in the northern Israeli city of Haifa with suicide drones on September 17 and 18.

The attack were carried out “in response to the massacres committed by the usurping entity [Israel] against civilians, including children, women, and the elderly” in the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip, the group said in separate statements, vowing that “operations against enemy strongholds will continue at an increasing pace.”

On September 17, Jordan’s state-run news agency Petra reported that the Jordanian military thwarted an attempt by a drone to cross the kingdom’s territory.

“The border guard forces … shot it [drone] down and it was transferred to the specialized authorities,” Petra said, citing an official source in the military’s leadership.

The news agency also quoted the unnamed source as saying: “We are dealing firmly with various threats on the kingdom’s borders.”

And on September 18, the Israeli military announced that its fighter jets intercepted a drone that was launched from Iraq over the Sea of Galilee.

The two drones intercepted recently over Jordan and Israel were apparently the ones launched by the IRI at targets in Haifa.

The IRI began launching attacks against Israel as well as against United States forces in Iraq as and in neighboring Syria in response to Israel’s bloody war on Gaza and Washington’s unwavering support for it.

The group suspended attacks against U.S. forces last February after the death of three American troops in a drone strike on a base in Jordan, reportedly upon a request from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. However, it escalated attacks against Israel starting from March.

Israel has not openly responded to the IRI’s attacks yet. Nevertheless, it was blamed for several strikes and suspected acts of sabotage that targeted Iran-backed armed factions in both Syria and Iraq.
