On October 25, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), an umbrella group of Iran-backed armed factions, launched three more attacks against Israel.
The group said in separate statements that it launched suicide drones at two “vital targets” in the southernmost Israeli city of Eilat and another in the northern part of the country to support the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, as well as in in response to “the massacres committed by the usurping entity [Israel] against civilians, including children, women, and the elderly.”
“Operations against the strongholds of the [Israeli] enemy will continue at an increasing pace,” the group vowed.
Videos released by the group showed the launch of what appears to be three Iranian-made Shahed-101 suicide drone. This type is said to have a range of 900 kilometers and a cruising speed of 120 kilometers per hour with a warhead weighing eight kilograms.
In the early morning, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that a drone was identified heading toward Israel, but it impacted an “open area” in the Red Sea, before reaching Israeli territory. The drone had been launched “from the East,” a term the IDF uses to refer to attacks by the IRI.
Hebrew media said that Israeli air defenses in Eilat launched at least one interceptor missile amid the drone attack. Videos of the launch were posted to social networks.
The IRI began carrying out attacks against Israel as well as against United States forces in Iraq and neighboring Syria last October in response to the Israeli all-out war on Gaza.
In September, the group escalated its attacks against Israel in response to Israel’s ongoing aerial campaign and ground operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
