The Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), an umbrella group of Iranian-backed armed factions, announced that it had carried out three more attacks against Israel in response to the war on the Gaza Strip.

In three separate statements, the group said that it had struck two Israeli targets, including a military site in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, on April 4 as well as oil refineries in the northern city of Haifa on April 6. The last attack was carried out using a drone that is thought to be made in Iran and is commonly known as Shahed-101.

The attacks were carried out in response to Israel’s “massacres” against Palestinian civilians in Gaza, according to the group.

On April 4, the IDF said that it fired an interceptor missile at a “suspicious aerial target” in the Arava region, just north of the southernmost city of Eilat. Also on the same day, sirens warning of incoming rockets and suspected drones were sounded across the Galilee region in the north. There were however no reports of interceptions or warnings in any Israeli regions in Hebrew media on April 6.

The IRI began launching attacks against Israel as well as against United States forces in Iraq and neighboring Syria on October 17 in response to the war on Gaza -which broke out just ten days earlier- and Washington’s unwavering support for it.

The group suspended attacks against U.S. forces last February after the death of three American troops in a drone strike on a base in Jordan, reportedly upon a request from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Nevertheless, it escalated attacks against Israel starting from March.

The most serious attack by the IRI so far took place on April 1. A suicide drone launched by the group struck a naval base in Haifa. The blast narrowly missed a Sa’ar 6-class corvette that was docked nearby.
