On Sunday, the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) liberated Al-Qahtaniya town, located 18 km north of the town of Al-Ba’aj, only 36 km from the Syrian-Iraqi border. The PMU also managed to liberate the residential compound west of Al-Qahtaniyah.
By capturing Al-Qahtaniyah, the PMU had controlled all the roads north of the ISIS stronghold of Al-Ba’aj.
In the course of the advance, the PMU killed 19 ISIS militants, destroyed a vehicle armed with a 23mm gun and two mortar sites of ISIS.
Iraqi Air Force helicopters and warplanes provided close air support to PMU forces, targeting positions and vehicles of ISIS in Al-Qahtaniyah and the nearby residential compound.
From its side, ISIS claimed the destruction of two Bulldozers and a BMP-1 vehicle belonging to the PMU with ATGMs in south of Sinjar.
ISIS also targeted PMU positions with a B-10 rifle near the Al-Asmedah area in Salahaddin province.
In the western part of Mosul city, ISIS militants launched a large-scale attack on Iraqi army positions in the Al-Ba’aj district and near the Old Mosul area. However, the Iraqi Army repelled the attack and according to Iraqi sources. Iraqi anti-terrorist forces are currently preparing for the final attack on ISIS in the Old Mosul area.
